Your application must include your passport images. The processing of your passport will be delayed if you submit inappropriate photos. In some cases, if your passport image is not legally acceptable, you might have to go through the entire process twice or even three times. Please adhere to the guidelines below to ensure that you get it correctly the first time.

General Requirements:

  • Provide a recent six-month colour photo.
  • Please use a clear photo of your face. Avoid using popular social media filters.
  • Have another person take your picture. Not a selfie.
  • Remove your glasses before the photo.
  • Use a background that is pure white or off-white.

Quality of the passport image must:

  • be professionally printed, such as by a photo studio or photo booth (home printing of images is unlikely to produce adequate results);
  • clear and sharp
  • in colour on plain, white photographic paper that isn't bordered and isn't torn or creased.
  • not labeled on either side (unless a photo needs to be countersigned)
  • unaffected by software on a computer

Passport photo size:

  • Send in a clear, high-resolution photo that isn't pixelated or grainy.
  • A passport photo should be 2 by 2 inches in size (51 x 51 mm). The gap between both the chin and the top of the head has to be between 1 and 1 3/8 inches (25 and 35 mm).
  • Printed on photo-quality matte or glossy paper.
  • Don't alter the image digitally.
  • A photo with creases, holes, or smudges cannot be submitted.

Passport photo style

  • Maintain a neutral facial expression with your mouth closed and both of your eyes open.
  • Face the camera straight on with your entire face visible.
  • Remove your spectacles. Please include a signed note from your doctor along with your application if you are unable to remove your spectacles due to health reasons.
  • Hats and other headgear are not permitted (unless its due to religion or medical reasons)
  • As long as your facial piercings do not cover your face, you are free to wear jewellery.

Photos of babies and children:

  • The kids in the picture must be on their own. Toys and dummies are not permitted for usage by babies.
  • To create a suitable background, use a blanket or sheet that is white or off-white.
  • Make sure the face is free of shadows.
  • It is not necessary for infants to have their eyes open. The holding hand must be concealed if the infant's head needs to be held high.

Note: Your passport application must include one photo.
